1.1 General Introduction
The purpose of this chapter of the ARCS Manual is to explain the
nature, purpose, and usage of ARCS. This chapter is a training
tool which should be read by anybody attempting to classify, file, retrieve, or
dispose of records covered by ARCS. It is also a reference tool
which can help users understand how to implement ARCS and interpret
specific parts of it.
This chapter is organized into three parts. Part One gives an
overview of ARCS in general. Part Two explains how to read a
primary, the basic building block of ARCS. Part Three gives
detailed background information on the records management system used by the BC
Government, and procedures for using the ARCS manual as part of this
system.
