Word processing records are transitory if they meet all of the criteria of a transitory electronic record (see special schedules 102901 and 102902).  They may be disposed of as soon as they become obsolete.

If a word processing record is required for ongoing legal, fiscal, audit, administrative or operational purposes, transfer it to a storage medium (paper files, microfiche or an electronic information system) suitable for retention of ongoing records.

Offices should establish regular purging procedures to print and delete word processing records from disks and diskettes.

SO = when all records required to document ongoing legal, fiscal, audit, administrative, or operational functions have been transferred to a suitable storage medium and incorporated into an ongoing record system
